Teaching Framework

To support the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 17, which focuses on strengthening the means of implementation and revitalising global partnerships for sustainable development, the London Institute of Sustainable Development (LISD) is committed to engaging closely with academic and research institutions worldwide. Our partnership initiatives aim to strengthen the capabilities and capacities of universities and research organisations, enabling them to make impactful decisions in education, governance, and sustainable development.

The purpose of LISD’s academic and research partnerships is to establish enduring relationships that foster meaningful interaction, collaboration, and knowledge exchange between LISD and institutions across the globe. Through these partnerships, LISD seeks to explore joint research and teaching initiatives in areas of mutual interest, creating frameworks that facilitate ongoing collaboration. Research and teaching projects developed through these partnerships are intended to be non-proprietary and publicly disseminated, ensuring that knowledge, innovations, and best practices are shared widely to promote sustainable development and capacity building across regions.

By leveraging these global partnerships, LISD ensures that its programmes, ranging from PhD and DBA to MBA and MSc degrees; remain internationally relevant, interdisciplinary, and designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle today’s most pressing global challenges.

Teaching Pedagogy

At the London Institute of Sustainable Development (LISD), our teaching pedagogy is built on the foundation of innovation, flexibility, and practical relevance. We recognise that modern learners, whether recent graduates, working professionals, or returning students, require an education that is not only academically rigorous but also deeply connected to real-world application. Our pedagogical approach reflects this by blending theory with practice and integrating global insights with local relevance.

Practice-Based and Real-World Focus

All LISD programmes, PhD, DBA, MBA, and MSc, are designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. Students engage in problem-solving tasks, case studies, consultancy-style projects, and industry-focused assignments. Our curriculum encourages learners to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world challenges, ensuring they develop critical thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills essential for leadership roles in today’s global economy.

Innovation in Delivery

Our teaching is highly adaptive and student-centred, leveraging a blended learning model that incorporates both online and face-to-face modes:

  • Online Learning: We use cutting-edge digital platforms to deliver interactive lectures, virtual workshops, collaborative forums, and multimedia content. These tools allow students from across the globe to access content flexibly, communicate with tutors, and participate in peer discussions, all within a dynamic virtual learning environment.
  • Face-to-Face Teaching Blocks: For those enrolled in hybrid learning formats, LISD offers intensive face-to-face teaching blocks in the UK and internationally. These sessions provide immersive, in-person engagement with faculty and peers, fostering discussion, networking, and applied learning in a professional setting.
Interactive and Collaborative Approach

LISD promotes a highly interactive learning environment. Whether online or in person, our teaching encourages student participation, peer learning, and reflective practice. Group projects, simulations, debates, and live problem-solving activities are embedded across the curriculum to stimulate collaboration and deeper understanding.

Global Expertise and Multidisciplinary Insight

Programmes are delivered by a diverse faculty of globally recognised academics, industry experts, and policy practitioners. This exposure allows students to gain international perspectives and insights into global development, leadership, sustainability, digital transformation, and innovation which are all essential themes in today’s interconnected world.

Research-Led and Impact-Focused

For advanced programmes like the PhD and DBA, the teaching pedagogy also emphasises independent, original research guided by experienced supervisors. Research projects are encouraged to address critical global issues, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on practical impact and sustainable solutions.

Continuous Support and Personalisation

We provide continuous academic and pastoral support through one-to-one supervision, regular feedback, and accessible online academic resources. The learning journey is personalised to accommodate diverse learning needs, professional backgrounds, and time commitments, especially for students balancing study with full-time careers.

LISD’s teaching pedagogy is a forward-looking, practice-based, and highly adaptable model of education that prepares students to thrive in complex, global environments. By combining academic excellence with practical insight and digital innovation, LISD ensures its graduates are not only knowledgeable but also capable of creating sustainable impact in their fields.
