Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs)

WASD has a long and respected history of promoting sustainable development (SD) through research, policy dialogue, capacity building, and international collaboration. Over the years, WASD has developed into a trusted consultancy provider, supporting governments, institutions, and organisations in advancing SD agendas. Through its specialist institute (LISD), WASD delivers expert consultancy services to support countries and organisations in sustainability strategy, policy implementation, and reporting. VNRs are country-led assessments presented at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum to report on progress towards achieving the  17 Sustainable Development Goals. They provide governments with an opportunity to evaluate national progress, identify challenges, share best practice, and strengthen accountability in implementing the UN 2030 Agenda  for SD. VNRs are increasingly important in the current global sustainability context. As countries face growing environmental, economic, and social pressures, VNRs help governments and organisations assess whether their policies and programmes are delivering measurable impact. They also support evidence-based decision-making, strengthen stakeholder engagement, enhance international credibility, and attract partnerships and investment aligned with sustainability priorities. Through our consultancy, WASD and LISD assist countries and organisations in designing, preparing, and enhancing VNR processes and sustainability reporting frameworks. We provide support in stakeholder mapping and engagement, data collection and analysis,  SDGs alignment, report drafting, policy review, benchmarking, and strategic recommendations for implementation improvement. Our services are tailored to each client’s context, ensuring practical and policy-relevant outcomes. What makes our consultancy unique is our combination of academic rigour, policy expertise, and global development experience. We offer an integrated, research-led approach that goes beyond report preparation to help clients embed sustainability into governance, planning, and institutional culture. Supported by world-class experts and international specialists, WASD and LISD deliver high-quality consultancy that enables countries and organisations to strengthen their sustainability performance and demonstrate meaningful progress on the global stage.
